The technology was driven creatively by Dr. Dre and created by Digital Domain Media Group (who made CG images of Brad Pitt in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button").
OK, so I'm running ahead with myself here. But seriously, technology has a habit of catching our ideas up faster than we think. There's a great little article called Real vs hologram worlds which makes you think about where we could end up and ultimately how that could effect the way we identify with “reality”.
One thing is very likely though, you will be going to see your favourite artist perform at concert (as a hologram) within the next 10 years. As more and more research goes into this field the true money making potential is being acknowledged by business people around the world. I mean can you image, Michael Jackson could perform simultaneously in 50 countries each night without rest or pay!
Of course, there will be strong moral arguments against this so only time will tell how far it will go. But, history shows that new technologies eventually overcome moral barriers and our collective sense of right and wrong changes over time.
