Repay in Advertising
Use Money From a Non Job
Unusual Funding Strategies
It was a simple idea. We initially asked for a large deposit (approx £4,000+) which was then repaid back on a monthly basis. If the musician needed to borrow all (or part) of the money, we covered the cost of any interest incurred. In exchange for "lending" us the deposit, we provided the recordings for free. The reason we did this was to generate large sums quickly that could be used for advertising and investment. The repayment model worked out really well and achieved it's aims. We are no longer offering the repayment model but may do again in the future.
Whilst this is very unusual, it shows that with creative thought you can come up with all kinds of payment methods.
Be warned though, you will need to have a good reach to potential funders to make the big money, it's no good simply listing your project and waiting for the money to roll in, you will need to put the word out and ask people to help fund your project.
Investors are out there too you know, in fact you'd be surprised how people who are not involved with music would love the idea of sponsoring a band. Approach business people who might be attracted to being "in the music bizz" and offer a solid business plan to wet their appetite. Recording costs are a fraction what they used to be and a good band or artist may make an attractive (and interesting) punt for a music loving businessman!
